No. The ruins themselves are a managed government monument and do not permit ceremonies. However, you can legally marry on the private cliffside field directly adjacent to the castle. This spot offers the most iconic views and is where 100% of the elopements I photograph take place.
Do I need a permit or permission to elope on the cliff field?
Yes. The cliff field is private land owned by a local farmer. You cannot simply “turn up” to exchange vows. As your photographer, I coordinate directly with the landowner to book your exclusive 2-hour window, ensuring you have total privacy and a guaranteed 4×4 transport to the ceremony spot.
What is the difference between a symbolic and a legal ceremony?
- Symbolic: A heart-led ceremony focused on your vows and photos. No legal paperwork is required in the UK, making this the stress-free choice for international couples.
- Legal: A government-recognized marriage. This requires a 28-day notice period, a legal officiant, and a Marriage Visitor Visa if you are coming from outside the UK (e.g., the USA).
How much does a Dunluce Castle elopement cost in 2026?
The private land access fee for a couple-only elopement at Dunluce starts at £350. This fee includes your 2-hour exclusive window, the use of the traditional Irish cottage for facilities/shelter, and the 4×4 vehicle transport to the cliff edge.
What happens if it rains during my elopement?
We embrace it! Northern Ireland weather moves fast. Because we have access to the landowner’s cottage, we can wait out heavy showers by the fire or even host the ceremony inside if the wind becomes too intense. I also provide clear umbrellas that look great in “moody” coastal photos.
Can we bring guests, children, or pets to the cliffside?
Absolutely. While most couples choose to elope just the two of them, the private field can accommodate small groups. The landowner even has a specialized seated trailer for the 4×4 to transport your guests safely. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are also welcome!
When is the best time for “Golden Hour” photos at Dunluce?
The best light is usually in the last 90 minutes before sunset. In the summer (June/July), this can be as late as 9:30 PM, while in winter, it can be as early as 3:30 PM. During our Strategy Session, I will help you pick a start time that perfectly aligns with the best light for your specific date.
