Ireland Anniversary Photographer
Some couples choose Ireland for their anniversary because it’s somewhere they’ve always wanted to go. Others come back because they were here before — maybe they eloped on the Causeway Coast, maybe they honeymooned in Kerry — and they want photographs from a place that already means something. Either way, an anniversary session in Ireland tends to feel different from other couples photography. There’s more history in the frame.
I’m Rob Dight, an Ireland anniversary photographer based on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland. I’ve been photographing couples across Ireland for twelve years and have done well over 250 sessions of various kinds. Anniversary sessions are some of my favourites — couples who’ve been together long enough to be completely comfortable with each other tend to produce photographs that are genuinely different from engagement sessions. The ease between two people who know each other well shows up in the images in a way that’s hard to manufacture.
Part of the Ireland couples photography services I offer across the Causeway Coast and beyond.
Sessions run from one hour to a full six-hour day and are available year round across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Why couples choose Ireland for their anniversary
Ireland works for anniversaries for the same reason it works for elopements and honeymoons — the landscape is extraordinary, the light is remarkable, and almost everywhere you point a camera produces images that look like they belong in a magazine. For couples visiting from the US, an anniversary trip to Ireland with a photography session built into one day is a way of marking the occasion with something more than dinner and a card.
Meredith and her husband came to Ireland for their anniversary and described the experience this way:
“We had the most incredible experience working with Rob during our anniversary photo shoot. He put us both totally at ease during our session and truly works miracles with his cameras. I’m so glad we chose Rob to help us celebrate both our anniversary and our trip to Ireland — those memories will last a lifetime.”
How Ireland anniversary sessions work
Before the session I send you my Ireland travel guide, location recommendations, and timing suggestions based on your dates and the time of year. By the time we meet there are no surprises — every variable I can handle has already been handled.
On the day I ease you in gradually. The first thing I usually do is get you walking ahead of me — hold hands, take in the view, breathe. The opening moments are about letting you settle as much as they are about getting shots. I’m talking to you throughout, giving direction when you need it and stepping back when you don’t. Most couples tell me afterwards that it felt more like a day out than a photoshoot.
Anniversary sessions tend to be relaxed in a way that other sessions aren’t. You already know each other. You’re not performing for the camera — you’re just being yourselves somewhere extraordinary. That’s when the best photographs happen.
The best places for an Ireland anniversary session
Dunluce Castle A medieval ruin on a basalt outcrop above the Atlantic — one of the most dramatic locations on earth for any kind of couples photography. I’ve been here more than 200 times and it still takes my breath away. For anniversary couples who want something genuinely spectacular, Dunluce is the one. Summer mornings and late afternoons avoid the coach tour crowds.
Giant’s Causeway 40,000 basalt columns built by a volcano 60 million years ago. The scale of it does something to people — you feel genuinely small standing there and the photographs reflect that. Early morning outside of peak summer gets you the location almost to yourselves.
Kinbane Castle For couples who want something remote and wild rather than famous. Kinbane sits on a limestone headland above the sea with almost no other visitors on most days. If your anniversary calls for somewhere that feels like the edge of the world, this is it.
The Mourne Mountains Silent Valley reservoir and the moorland around Hen Mountain give you dramatic mountain scenery with virtually no crowds. Some of the most atmospheric anniversary sessions I’ve shot have been in the Mournes on misty mornings when the mountains disappear into the cloud above you.
Further into Ireland For couples whose trip takes them south — the Wicklow Mountains, Cliffs of Moher, Kerry, Connemara. The full Ireland elopement guide covers the whole island if you’re still planning your itinerary. Get in touch with your dates and I’ll tell you what’s realistic.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an anniversary session in Ireland? A couples photography session built around your anniversary trip to Ireland. We spend one to six hours moving through some of the most extraordinary scenery in the world — castle ruins, Atlantic coastline, mountain lakes — and come away with a set of images that document where you were and how it felt to be there together.
Where in Ireland do you photograph anniversary sessions? Primarily across Northern Ireland and the Causeway Coast — Dunluce Castle, Giant’s Causeway, Kinbane Castle, the Dark Hedges, the Mourne Mountains, and the Antrim Coast. Sessions in the Republic — Wicklow, Cliffs of Moher, Kerry, Connemara — are available depending on the date and travel.
How long should an anniversary session in Ireland be? One hour works well for a single location done properly. Two to four hours is what most visiting couples go for — enough to cover two or three spots without taking over the whole day. A six-hour session lets us build a full itinerary across the landscape.
How much does an anniversary session in Ireland cost? Sessions start at £1,000. The final price depends on session length and locations. Get in touch with your dates and I’ll give you a clear quote.
How many photos will we receive? At least 30 fully edited images per hour of shooting. That’s the minimum — I typically deliver more. Every image is fully edited. I don’t pad numbers with near-identical frames.
How long until we get our photos? Sneak peeks within seven days. Full gallery within three weeks. Fast-track editing available for an additional fee.
When is the best time of year for an anniversary session in Ireland? Every season has something going for it. Spring and autumn give the most dramatic light with fewer crowds. Summer has the longest golden hours — the sun doesn’t set until nearly 10pm in June. Winter is quieter and moodier with the locations almost entirely to yourselves. If your dates are fixed, I’ll make them work.
What are the best locations for anniversary photos in Ireland? Dunluce Castle for drama and scale. Kinbane Castle for something wild and remote. The Mourne Mountains for atmosphere and solitude. Giant’s Causeway for something genuinely unlike anywhere else on earth. I’ll always give you an honest recommendation based on what you’re hoping the photographs look like.
Do you shoot in the rain? Yes. The light after a rain shower on the Causeway Coast is remarkable, and some of my best anniversary sessions have been on overcast days when the mood of the landscape matches the weight of the occasion. I always have a plan B and I’ll brief you on weather before the day.
We’ve been together a long time and feel awkward in front of a camera. Is that a problem? The opposite is usually true — couples who’ve been together a long time tend to produce the most natural photographs because the ease between them is real. The awkwardness that newly engaged couples sometimes feel in front of a camera is much less of a factor when you’re completely comfortable with each other. I ease everyone in gradually regardless.
How far in advance should we book? As far ahead as you know your travel dates. Summer books quickly. That said, I’ve put sessions together on short notice for couples already in Ireland — get in touch regardless of how close your dates are.
Can we book an anniversary session as part of our Ireland holiday? That’s how most sessions work. Couples visiting Ireland add a session into one day of their itinerary. Once you have rough travel dates and a sense of where you’ll be based, get in touch and we’ll figure out what fits.
About Rob Dight
I’m a photographer based on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland. I’ve been photographing couples across Ireland full time for twelve years — elopements, engagements, proposals, anniversaries, and honeymoons, primarily for couples visiting from the US.
Before photography I worked in drug and alcohol counseling with young people. That background shapes how I work more than any camera skill. Getting people to relax, building rapport quickly, making a session feel like a day out rather than a photoshoot — that came before the lens work.
I’ve photographed well over 300 elopements and more than 250 couples sessions across Ireland. My work has been featured on BBC News and I was named in Professional Photo magazine’s Top 50 UK Wedding Photographers. Every session is me — not an associate, not a second shooter.
