Dunluce Castle Engagement Photographer | Dave & Morgan’s Causeway Coast Adventure Session
Dave and Morgan flew in from Texas to elope at Dunluce Castle. The day before their ceremony I picked them up, and the three of us spent a few hours walking the cliffs around the castle and the coastline above the Giant’s Causeway. The plan was straightforward: shake off the jet lag, get used to being photographed together, and choose the exact spot where they’d say their vows the next morning.

Why I Recommend an Engagement Session the Day Before a Dunluce Castle Elopement
I suggest this to almost every U.S. couple I work with, and it’s one of the most useful things you can do for your wedding day on the Causeway Coast.
You’ve just landed off an overnight flight. You’re five or eight time zones from home. The first time you stand in front of my camera shouldn’t be thirty seconds before your vows.
An adventure session the day before fixes three things at once. You meet me properly, so I’m not a stranger on the most important morning of your trip. You get to walk the actual ground around Dunluce Castle in whatever the weather is doing, which means we can finalise the ceremony spot based on light, wind direction, and crowds rather than guessing from a Google Maps pin. And you get a full gallery of relaxed portraits in jeans and a jumper, which is a completely different look from your wedding-day images and gives you twice the story to take home.
The Route: Dunluce Castle to Hamilton’s Seat
Dave and Morgan and I started inside the castle ruins, then worked our way along the outer walls and the grass headland looking back at the keep. From there we drove the short way to the Giant’s Causeway visitor centre and took the clifftop path rather than the lower causeway path. That route climbs past Port Reostan, the Organ rock formations, and Port na Spaniagh before ending at Hamilton’s Seat, a stone bench set into the cliff edge with a clean view back along the basalt headland.
It’s roughly an hour out and an hour back at a steady pace. Decent shoes are sensible. The light at the far end in the last ninety minutes before sunset is the reason I keep bringing couples up there.
Planning Your Own Dunluce Castle Engagement Session
If you’re booking an elopement with me, an adventure session like this slots naturally into the day before. I usually plan around afternoon or evening light, and a typical session runs two to three hours covering Dunluce Castle, Whiterocks Beach a few minutes east, or the cliff walk above the Giant’s Causeway depending on what you’re drawn to and what the weather is doing on the day.
